MODIFICATION OF CONFEREES ON H.R. 5835 - Pursuant to the previous order of the House on October 18, 1990, the Speaker announced modifications of appointment of conferees. The last paragraph of the existing list of conferees is deleted and replaced with the following new paragraphs: (1) As additional conferees for consideration of part 1 of subtitle A and subtitles B through E (except sec. 14302) of title XIV of the House bill, and corresponding provisions of the Senate amendment, and modifications committed to conference: Messrs. Whitten, Pickle, and Conte. (2) As additional conferees for consideration of part 2 of subtitle A of title XIV and sec. 14302 of the House bill, and corresponding provisions of the Senate amendment, and modifications committed to conference: Messrs. Whitten, Pickle, and Pursell.
MODIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT OF CONFEREES - Pursuant to the authority granted on October 18, 1990, the Chair announced the following modification in the appointment of conferees on H.R. 5835: The first panel (health) from the Committee on Energy and Commerce is also appointed for consideration of subtitles B, C and D of title XII of the House bill.

PROVIDING FOR CONFERENCE WITH THE SENATE - Mr. Panetta asked unanimous consent that, upon receipt of a message from the Senate transmitting an amendment to H.R. 5835, and which states that the Senate insists upon its amendment and requests a conference with the House thereon, the House shall be considered to have taken H.R. 5835 and the Senate amendment from the Speaker's table, disagreed with the Senate amendment, and agreed to the conference requested by the Senate; and, further, that the Speaker shall be authorized to appoint conferees in anticipation thereof and reserve the authority to modify the appointment at later times; and, finally, that the motion to instruct conferees otherwise in order at the time of their appointment shall instead be in order only if offered by the Minority Leader or his designee on the legislative day of Friday, October 19, 1990.
